Family Council

Family Council

Family Councils are included in the legislation governing Long-Term Care Homes in Ontario. The inclusion of Family Councils in the new Long-Term Care Homes Act was a major development that recognized the important contributions Family Councils make to long-term care homes and the long-term care sector in general.

The Act outlines several powers of a Family Council, such as providing assistance, information, and advice to residents, family members of residents, and persons of importance to residents, including when new residents are admitted to the home; advising residents, family members of residents and persons of importance to residents respecting their rights and obligations under the Act; sponsoring and planning activities for residents; advise the licensee of any concerns or recommendations the Council has about the operation of the home, and others.

Family Council Corner

The Family Council Corner is situated next to the Reception area, near the elevators on the first floor of the Care Centre.  Here you can find previous Family Council meeting minutes, past important Family Council information, and the Compassionate Fund Box. The Compassionate Fund is a grant program funded and managed by Family Council to assist residents who may have a financial need.

Residents’ Council

Residents' Council is an independent, self-determining group made up of only residents of a long-term care home. The Council is intended and designed to form the collective voice of all residents who reside in the LTC home, whether or not they attend meetings. All residents have the right to participate in the Residents' Council.

Through the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, every licensee of a long-term care home must ensure that a Residents' Council is established at the home. Every licensee of a long-term care home must also appoint a Residents' Council Assistant who is acceptable to that council to assist the Residents' Council.

Trinity Village Residents’ Council welcomes any resident of the Care Centre who wishes to participate in the meetings and vote. Matters requiring determination by the Resident’s Council shall be decided by the majority of the members attending a meeting at which a matter is presented or considered.

Trinity Village Residents’ Council meetings occur the first Thursday of each month.

Trinity Village Care Centre is a member of the Ontario Association of Residents’ Councils.
